Resources for Finding Help and an Excerpt From My Book (under book tab)

June 24, 2021

This weeks blog post is a bit different. I've included some extremely helpful PDFs to help anyone seeking treatment that doesn't know where to start. I learned the hard way - trial and error. This info will put you on the right tract from the "get-go". I've also included list to the top sites for gaining information and help for mental health, substance abuse and living sober.

AND

I am sharing an excerpt from Chapter 2 of my book. Just click the "Book" tab at the top of the page.

One of the most stressful experiences of my life was finding help for Keven, and as often as I did it, the stress of it never subsided. I was a wreck trying to “strike while the iron is hot”. Keven would come to me and say, “Mom, I need help, I want to go to Rehab”. Instead of rejoicing and feeling hopeful, I knew this meant I had around 24 hours to find him a place for him to go. Much longer than that and he would change his mind. It sounds simple, right? Well, let me tell ya! It's like a race against time.

Looking back I remember how it felt to have my pad of note paper, a pen and my phone making call after call. It was frustrating, sometimes I wanted to cry - and I probably did a few times. Most places had to “get back to me”. Then three places would call at once saying they had room for him and we’d have to decide based on location, cost and reputation.

The first time Keven was in rehab we were sitting in a circle for Family Night and I noticed that all the others had been to two, three or more rehabs. I was so naive that I felt sorry for them, knowing that MY SON would only need one 90 day program and then he'd be back to "normal".

It's my goal to help you in this process if it should ever come up. Or perhaps you have a friend that needs this information, I am always only an email away to help in any way I can, please don’t hesitate to reach out! barbaralegere@gmail.com

Before you begin looking for help you need to determine a few things so I've made a PDF that has all the information you'll need before making the call to a treatment facility.

Also, the links below offer excellent information on both mental illness and drug treatment, they are also included on the PDF:
